Southwest Airlines announced the appointment of Alan Kasher to the position of senior vice president of air operations.  Mr. Kasher takes over from Craig Drew, who last year announced plans to retire.

“Craig’s contributions to Southwest have been numerous and immeasurable,” said Mike Van de Ven, the airline’s COO, of Mr. Drew.

Mr. Drew first joined the airline as a first officer in 1990 and will remain a consultant to Southwest.  Mr. Kasher joined the airline in 2000 as a pilot and has held multiple managerial positions within the company since then, most recently vice president of flight operations.

That position will be filled by Bob Waltz, who is being promoted from senior director of flight operations.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a deep bench of talent,” said Van de Ven.
