Marriott International announced the appointment of Jim Scholefield to the position of chief information and digital officer, a new position. As such, Mr. Scholefield will head up the hotel chain’s IT and digital strategies.

Mr. Scholefield most recently held the same position at Merck & Co. Prior to joining Merck, he held the position of CIO at Nike, and served as CTO at Coca-Cola prior to that.

“”Jim will play a pivotal role in driving our technology modernization efforts as we embark on a new chapter in the company’s technology journey to support our future growth,” said Stephanie Linnartz, the hotel chain’s group president of consumer operations.

The appointment of Mr. Scholefield comes following the September 2019 announcement that Bruce Hoffmeister, Marriott’s chief information officer, planned to retire after 30 years with the company.  He will remain through the middle of the year to assist with the transition.
