Luxe Life Hotel Opens in New York City
Luxe Hotels announced the opening of the Luxe Life Hotel in New York City.
The 98-key hotel is in the former headquarters building of Life Magazine. Life moved into the building in 1895 and the hotel celebrates the famous photographers and artists who contributed to the magazine including Norman Rockwell, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Margaret Bourke-White, and Robert Capa.
“Today, the Life team’s creative spirit lives on throughout the neighborhood and throughout the hotel,” the hotel said in a statement announcing the opening.
Guest rooms feature a white-and-crème décor with hardwood floors. Two rooms on the tenth floor feature outdoor terraces with views of the Empire State Building.
Dining options include the Marilyn restaurant, helmed by Chefs Scott Hawley and Michael Gutowski. Named after Hawley’s grandmother (and not the famous film star of the same name), the Marilyn will offer what the chefs are calling “modern new” American cuisine.
In the hotel’s basement will be a speakeasy bar modeled after the one that was rumored to be there for Life magazine staff members. The speakeasy, which will open this summer, will offer a variety of cocktails, beer, and wine.
