Apple Completes Rollout of Redesigned Maps App for U.S.
Apple said Thursday that it has completed the redesign of its Apple Maps app for users in the United States.
The upgraded version of Maps offers faster and more accurate navigation, Apple said.
“We set out to create the best and most private maps app on the planet that is reflective of how people explore the world today,” said Eddy Cue, the company’s senior vice president of Internet software and services.
The new maps will provide “better road coverage and pedestrian data, more precise addresses, and detailed land cover,“ the company said in a statement, adding that it provides more “comprehensive views of roads, buildings, parks, airports, [and] malls.”
Another new feature is Look Around, available in major cities including Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Oahu, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Look Around offers high-resolution street-level imagery using three-dimensional photographs with smooth and seamless transitions.
The Cupertino-based company said it would now begin to work on rolling out redesigned maps of Europe next.
