Hertz to Accept Debit Cards in Europe
Hertz Europe announced that its Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty rental-car locations in Europe will now accept debit cards in addition to credit cards.
The list of countries where debit cards are now accepted includes Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
Hertz said that the reason for the change was because many customers don’t have credit cards.
“A significant number of people do not have access to a credit card or simply prefer to use their debit card for certain transactions,” said Tracy Gehlan, the company’s senior vice president.
Debit cards will work the same way credit cards do. Hertz will put a hold for a specified sum on the account and release the hold when the car is returned.
