Synagogue Shooting in California, 1 Dead, 3 Injured
A gunman walked into a synagogue in the San Diego area and opened fire on the congregation, authorities said.
One person was killed and three were injured in the attack.
The shooting took place at the Chabad of Poway on Chabad Way in Poway, where approximately 100 people were present.
The city’s mayor, Steve Vaus, called the shooting a “hate crime” given what the shooter reportedly said as he entered the synagogue.
Police later apprehended John T. Earnest, 19, of San Diego in connection with the shooting. The suspect does not have a criminal history and has no apparent connection with white supremacist groups, according to San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore.
