A group of former Wow customers says it is trying to resurrect Wow Air with the help of the Icelandic public.

The group, which says it has no affiliation with the failed airline or its management, is using a new crowdfunding site, hluthafi.com, for its efforts.

The news was first reported by the magazine Iceland Review.

The website was apparently specifically created for the purpose of raising funds for a new Wow Air. A carpenter in Iceland, Friðrik Atli Guðmundsson, organized the site, according to the magazine’s report.

The group said it believes that an Icelandic low-cost carrier is key to the country’s tourism-based economy and “has stimulated economic growth and increased quality of life in recent years,” adding that “we want to make sure that quality remains.”
