Apple Debuts Credit Card, TV App, News and Videogame Subscriptions
Apple introduced a news-subscription app, a videogame subscription service, and a new credit card in partnership with Goldman Sachs, as well as an updated version of its iOS operating system at an event at the Steve Jobs Theater on Monday. The company also announced Apple TV+, a service that offers original TV shows and movies.
The news app, which builds on the current and free Apple News app, will provide access to over 300 newspapers and magazines including the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, GQ, and Vogue. It is priced at $9.99 per month.
The new credit card is integrated into the Wallet app. It has no fees, lower interest rates than most cards, and prospective cardholders can apply from within the Wallet app. Cardholders will get 2% cash back on all transactions made with the card using Apple Pay.
Apple Arcade is the name of the new video service. It will allow iOS, macOS, and tvOS users to access a bundle of videogames for a monthly fee.
New features in iOS 12.2 include support for the credit card as well as the videogame and news subscriptions. It also adds several new Animoji characters.
