Apple Adds Transit Directions for Switzerland to Apple Maps
In a major addition to its Apple Maps app, the Cupertino-based tech company added transit support for all of Switzerland, including indoor maps for Zürich Airport.
The move will provide iPhone users with detailed directions to destinations via public transportation in the country. This includes all trains, trams, buses, boats, and funicular railways in the Swiss Confederation.
Apple introduced public transportation into its Maps app with iOS 6, which was released in September 2012. At launch, in addition to 300 cities in China, the Transit feature supported Baltimore, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Sydney, and Toronto. It has since added support for hundreds of cities across the globe.
Apple Maps also works with the Apple Watch in terms of providing turn-by-turn directions on the watch’s display and it uses distinct vibration patterns to indicate if a left turn or right turn is warranted.
