The fourth winter storm of the month is barreling towards the East Coast of the United States and is expected to bring heavy snow and high winds with the potential for blizzard conditions in some areas.

Winter storm warnings are in effect from eastern Massachusetts to the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. This includes Boston, Providence, Hartford, the New York City metropolitan area, and Philadelphia.

Expect between 4” to 6” (10 to 15 centimeters) of snow in Baltimore, 8 to 12 (20 to 30) in Philadelphia, 5 to 9 (13 to 23) in New York City, and 4 to 8 (10 to 20) in Boston.

Travelers should expect to encounter hazardous travel and road conditions throughout the region. Airlines have already begun cancelling hundreds of flights in and out of the area and are issuing travel waivers.

Snowfall will begin Tuesday evening in some areas continuing into Thursday morning.

The first nor’easter of the month was on March 2 and left thousands of travelers stranded. A second nor’easter on March 7 brought up to 24” or 61 centimeters of snow in some areas and left thousands without power. The most recent nor’easter was on March 12.
