Hawaii’s Island Air to Shut Down Friday

HONOLULU—Island Air, Hawaii’s second-largest inter-island carrier, said it would cease operations Friday. The carrier’s CEO, David Uchiyama, broke the news to employees in an e-mail late Thursday.
The airline had “exhausted all options that would have allowed us to continue and we have not been able to solidify any of those options within the timeframe needed,” said Mr. Uchiyama.
Passengers with tickets for future travel on Island Air have been told to make “alternative arrangements.” Competitor Hawaiian Airlines said it plans to honor tickets for the troubled airline on a standby basis next week.
The airline later said it had not been able to secure new funding or locate a new investor who would have enabled Island Air to continue flight operations.
