Southwest Sees Traffic Increase for August

Southwest Airlines announced operational results for August 2017. The carrier reported an increase in its traffic, capacity, and load factor.
The airline’s total system traffic was 11.28 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, a year-over-year increase of 5.3% from 10.71 billion RPMs in August 2016.
The carrier reported a total system capacity of 13.28 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, up 4.9% from 12.67 billion the previous August.
Meanwhile, Southwest’s load factor for the month rose to 84.9%, a 0.3 percentage point increase from 84.6%.
In addition, Southwest forecast a drop of 1% in RASM, or revenue per available seat mile, for the third quarter.
