Southwest Sees Bump in Traffic and Load Factor for July

Southwest Airlines announced operational results for July 2017.
The carrier reported an increase in its traffic, capacity, and load factor.
The airline’s total system traffic was 12.36 billion RPMs, or revenue passenger miles, a year-over-year increase of 6% from 11.67 billion RPMs in July 2016.
The company reported a total system capacity of 14.16 billion ASMs, or available seat miles, up 5.5% from 13.42 billion the previous July.
Meanwhile, Southwest’s load factor for the month rose to 87.3%, a 0.4 percentage point increase from 86.9%.
Southwest forecast a rise of 1% in RASM, or revenue per available seat mile, for the third quarter, compared to the prior year.
