Marriott Introduces More Restrictive Cancellation Policy

DSC_0785 (1)Marriott Hotels and Resorts made a dramatic change on Friday to its cancellation policy at all Marriott and former Starwood properties in the Americas.

Effective immediately, cancellations for all properties except for Design Hotels must be made by midnight 48 hours prior to arrival. The hotelier is making the change to allow it “to make rooms available to guests that would have otherwise gone unoccupied due” it said in a statement. It said that hotels with less restrictive cancellation policies been “faced with a significant number of unsold rooms due to last minute cancellations.”

The new policy will be in place at all hotels in the United Sates, Canada, the Caribbean, and Latin America according to Marriott.

Marriott cautioned that cancellation policies can also vary by hotel and “for certain events and rates,” so it advises that “customers should always check the cancellation policy that applies at the time of booking.”
