Lyft and Alphabet’s Waymo Reach Deal to Partner on Self-Driving Cars
Waymo, the self-driving car unit of Google parent Alphabet, and Lyft announced plans to collaborate on the development of autonomous vehicle technology.
The two startups will work together to create products and technology for self-driving cars although neither offered specifics on what that would entail or what the terms of the deal would be, nor was any timeline provided.
Lyft and Waymo each hold pieces of the puzzle the other lacks.
“Lyft’s vision and commitment to improving the way cities move will help Waymo’s self-driving technology reach more people, in more places,” Waymo said in a statement.
“Waymo holds today’s best self-driving technology, and collaborating with them will accelerate our shared vision of improving lives with the world’s best transportation,” Lyft said in a statement.
