DSC_0223 (1)BMW of North America announced that the first of some 100 electric vehicle charging stations in America’s national parks is now operational at Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange, New Jersey.

The automaker partnered with the National Park Foundation, National Park Service, and the Department of Energy to identify locations and install the charging stations at national parks across the country. A team will choose future locations for chargers based on various factors, including distance from the nearest charging station, landscape, and proximity of electric vehicle markets.

Electric vehicles in national parks will help reduce air pollution and help exemplify the feasibility of electric vehicles in everyday life, BMW of North America said.

As part of its partnership arrangement, BMW will undewrite all charging costs at Thomas Edison National Historical Park for the next six months.
