The Kimpton Alexis Hotel is another good option for a stay downtown. Like every Kimpton property, the hotel is pet friendly, and offers complimentary bicycles for guests to explore the city. A daily wine hour is hosted in the lobby where guests can mingle and sample complimentary wine.

WHERE TO EAT

The Frankfurter is a hot dog stand that is considered by locals as serving the best hot dogs in the city. It still stands in its original building, and offers such eclectic sausages as chicken basil, sundried tomato, and Thai chicken, as well as time-tested favorites like kielbasa, bockwurst, and Italian hot sausage.

Jonathan Spira’s favorite restaurant in not only Seattle but the Pacific Northwest is Wild Ginger on 3rd Avenue, which has been serving delectable Pan-Asian dishes since 1989. Start with the memorable and supersized pot stickers, stuffed with gingery minced chicken, and continue with the restaurant’s signature “Fragrant Duck,” which the diner assembles into one of several steamed buns. Add plum sauce and perhaps some lettuce or coriander sprigs, and top it with Szechuan peppercorn salt for a gustatory delight.

New on the restaurant front is the Goldfinch Tavern in the venerable Four Seasons Hotel. Its extensive menu includes classic items such as the New York strip, which, when served medium rare with a side of roasted potatoes and grilled green beans, may leave little room for dessert.

The Steelhead Diner, in the Pike Place Market, is a local favorite for Pacific Northwestern comfort food. If weather permits, sit on the outdoor patio and enjoy some of our favorites, including Alaskan razor clam chowder and flash fried Alaskan rockfish tacos
