Southwest Airlines Pilots Picket for Contract
Pilots at Southwest Airlines, the nation’s number three carrier, picketed Wednesday at Dallas Love Field, the carrier’s home airport, to call attention to the lack of a new contract.
The pilots have been negotiating a new contract with the airline for four years. The move was intended to show their displeasure in not yet having a new contract after several years of negotiations with the company.
The line of pilots “stretched outside from ticketing to baggage claim” according to a statement by the Southwest Airlines Pilots’ Association.
“Four years, particularly during a time of record profits, is far too long for a company known for its ‘LUV’ to not provide a worthy contract offer to its operational front line leaders – the pilots,” the union said.
Union members first picketed for a new contract in January of this year.
