Coffee was served shortly thereafter. While paper cups were used, I was nonetheless offered a choice of Cognac or Bailey’s to accompany my beverage. It was elegantly presented with milk containers, sugar, and a napkin in a separate plastic cup.

Norwegian provides comfortable blankets but, alas, no pillows, so the adjustable headrest came in handy. Each passenger also receives a pair of earphones in an elegant blue Norwegian case. While the earphones aren’t the best, the case turned out to be quite useful.

I would have been off to sleep at that point but I had been invited to watch the sun rise over Europe from the flight deck and that trumped sleep. I spent about 90 minutes up front and then returned to my seat, where I got about three hours of sleep before breakfast was served.

There is no clinking of china cups to alert you to the meal but the crew did set the Dreamliner into sunrise mode. Breakfast, keeping to form, came in a box and included a warm bagel, smoked salmon, capers, as well as coffee and juice. It turned out to be surprisingly good and the fish was excellent.

Each seat has an individual and decently-sized in-flight entertainment system, powered by Android. The moving map is excellent and the choice of movies was limited but I found something to watch, in this case the film “Burnt,” followed by an episode of the Norwegian soap opera “Frikjent.” While I don’t speak Norwegian, I still understood quite a bit. The IFE is also used to order snacks, something far more important for coach passengers who don’t receive two meals (unless they order and pay for them in advance) and virtually unlimited drinks.

The seats also provide individual power and USB outlets which I found quite useful.
