July 4 Holiday Brings Lower Fuel Prices Across the Nation
Summer is here, and for anyone looking to go on a long road trip vacation, there’s good news: fuel prices are down across the entire country.
The average price for a gallon of gasoline this Fourth of July weekend was $2.291, $0.502 cheaper than it was the same time last year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, while the average price for a gallon of diesel was $2.423, $0.409 cheaper than it was a year ago.
The West coast saw the greatest decline in gasoline prices, with a $0.538 drop from a year ago. Next was the Midwest, which experienced a $0.528 decrease, and the Rocky Mountain region, which saw a $0.505 drop. The Central Atlantic and Lower Atlantic saw $0.496 and $0.484 decreases, respectively.
Diesel fuel in New England saw the steepest decline over the past year, with a $0.578 drop. The Central Atlantic region experienced a $0.538 decline, while the Lower Atlantic saw a $0.455 drop, and the Gulf Coast experienced a $0.430 decrease. Meanwhile, the West Coast saw a decline of $0.360.
