DSC_0493Southwest Airlines unveiled new crew uniforms, designed by its own employees. Additionally, the carrier debuted Boeing 737-800 aircraft outfitted with Southwest’s new Heart interior, galley, and seats.

The new uniforms were created by a group of 43 employees from the carrier’s ground ops, inflight, provisioning, technical operations, and cargo departments. The uniforms were then tested by over 120 airline employees across 37 cities for fit and comfort, as well as functionality, aesthetics, and ease of care.

Southwest’s new uniform incorporates the airline’s colors into the design, with splashes of blue and elements of red. Southwest said that the final selections will move into manufacturing, with its employees scheduled to begin wearing the new uniforms in June of next year.

The carrier’s new 737-800 seat has more legroom than previous ones, and features an adjustable headrest, and enhanced back comfort, as well as extra room for personal belongings. The seats are upholstered in the airline’s Bold Blue eLeather, which is made up of leather fibers.

The carrier’s 737-800’s new galleys feature a design that does not have carts, allowing flight attendants to more quickly serve passengers using trays.

Southwest currently has three 737-800s outfitted with the new interiors in service. The carrier expects to have 28 in service by the end of this year.

The airline first introduced its new Heart brand in September 2014. The brand included a new logo and aircraft livery.
