While Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner has been the stuff of which headline writers dream about, Airbus’ new A350 XWB has quietly taken flight over the past year.

There are currently 21 in service, and the launch customer for the A350 was Qatar Airways, which currently flies the new plane from Doha to three cities in the United States, Boston, New York, and Philadelphia . Other operators (in order of appearance) include Vietnam Airlines, Finnair, TAM Airlines, and Singapore Airlines.

The A350 is the first all-new Airbus aircraft to be launched since the superjumbo A380 made its debut about 12 years ago. The A350 longer and wider than existing A330 and A340 models, is made largely from composite materials, and competes with Boeing’s Dreamliner.

Here’s a tour of what’s in store for those lucky passengers who are on early A350 Qatar flights. We’ll be on a flight soon and will provide an in-depth review of the service at that time.
