Delta CEO Richard Anderson to Retire in May

DSC_4940Richard Anderson, who led a major turnaround at Delta Airlines in his nine years at the airline, will retire as CEO in May, the airline announced.

Delta’s president, Ed Bastian, will succeed Anderson as CEO effective May 2, 2016 and Glen Hauenstein, the airline’s executive vice president, will serve as president effective the same date.

“His unique combination of strategic and operating skills, plus his commitment to employees, corporate culture, customers and shareholders has redefined Delta and led to an entirely new and better way of flying around the world,” the airline said in a statement on Wednesday.

Prior to his role at Delta, Anderson served as the CEO of Northwest Airlines from 2001 to 2004. Delta merged with Northwest several years later.
