Hilton Adds Free Wi-Fi for HHonors Members, Eliminates All Benefits for Third-Party Bookings
Hilton Worldwide announced it will offer Hilton HHonors members of any level free Wi-Fi. To qualify for the benefit, the reservations must be made via an official Hilton channel such as a Hilton website or app.
Diamond-level members will receive free premium Wi-Fi where available, while Gold, Silver, and Blue members will receive free standard Wi-Fi.
Hilton is joining other global chains that offer all of their loyalty program members free Wi-Fi, including Fairmont, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, and Starwood.
The hotelier also moved to limit on-property HHonors benefits, which can include the free Wi-Fi as well as complimentary breakfast, snacks, and space-available upgrades, to guests booking through official Hilton channels.
In its terms and conditions, Hilton defines its official channels as any Hilton- or HHonors-branded website, a Hilton telephone reservations line, a Hilton mobile app, and directly at a Hilton hotel. Reservations made through an IATA-accredited travel agent using a Hilton channel or an approved global distribution system such as Amadeus, Apollo/Galileo, and Sabre also qualify.
The terms and conditions exclude bookings made using multiple popular third-party websites, specifically referencing “‘opaque” websites’ where the hotel brand and specific hotel are not known until the booking is made.”
