Photo Essay: A Tribute to US Airways
US Airways, which began life as All American Aviation in 1937, is one of the country’s remaining legacy carriers. It merged with American Airlines in 2013.
Today, US Airways continues to operate as a subsidiary of American Airlines Group, but the US Airways brand and livery will fade into history after the two airlines complete merging operations, something expected to occur by the end of 2015.
American has announced that it will commemorate the airlines that make up the merged airline with legacy liveries – including Allegheny, Piedmont, PSA, and America West – so, while there may be one or two aircraft bearing US Airways livery, it will be a very rare bird.
