The property, located right in the heart of downtown provides convenient access to the city’s sprawling metro system, merely a block away, that quickly takes visitors throughout Taipei and beyond.


W Taipei offers a number of wellness activities. A large gym on the twelfth floor provides a variety of equipment ranging from free weights to stair masters, stationary bikes to more complex machines. Classes in yoga, tai chi, and combat cardio (intriguing activity; I’m frankly disappointed about not being in town for it) are offered periodically through the week for a fee.

A well appointed sauna and steam room are available next to the gym. An elevator, adjacent to the saunas, provides a direct link to the outdoor infinity pool, located two stories below. While much too chilly and ironically wet, to try its waters during my December visit, it looked promising and appealing for a warm summer eve’s dip.


The spa offers a variety of treatments and options, all at a fee.


For a hotel, the W offers an extensive array of dining venues. Several full service bars are dotted throughout the property. Each has a unique character and flair, such as the WooBar in the lobby, which while quiet and reserved in the daytime, hits its stride in the evenings with its live DJ and decidedly club vibe.

I sampled both the Kitchen Table buffet as well as the stylishly decorated Yen Chinese restaurant for lunch. The fare in each was most satisfying, particularly the made-on-demand smoothies at the former, and the duck at the latter
