Winter Storm to Bring Snow, Freezing Rain to Northeast

2015-01-06 11.38.37The season’s 8th winter storm is bringing snow, sleet, and freezing rain to the northeastern United States on Monday.

As of 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time, 328 flights had been canceled in the U.S. according to FlightStats, a flight-tracking service, with 662 delayed, although those figures are expected to rise throughout the day.  Driving conditions will also be dangerous in many of the impacted areas.

In Cleveland, as much as two and a half inches of snow could fall by the end of the day, while Pittsburgh will see freezing rain and snow throughout the day, with a total of one inch of snow possible.

In upstate New York, Buffalo and Syracuse could see as much as 2” of snow, while Albany could get as much as three and a half inches. New York City is set to receive a mixture of rain, sleet, and freezing rain all day.

Further north in Boston, a combination of snow, sleet, and rain is expected to fall, and Portland, Maine, could see between 1” and 2” of snow by the end of the day.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia will see freezing rain, with 0.1” of accumulation expected throughout the day, while Baltimore and Washington, D.C. are expected to experience similar conditions.

At least one death has been caused by the weather so far.
