DSC_0016Southwest Airlines announced that it plans to begin new daily, non-stop service between John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California and Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on June 7 of next year.  The airline submitted an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the service is currently awaiting government approval.

Puerto Vallarta will be Southwest’s ninth international destination.

The carrier first began international service on July 1 this year, with flights to Aruba, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.

In addition to the Orange County-Puerto Vallarta service, the airline announced that it plans to add an additional weekly flight to its route between Baltimore/Washington International Airport and San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos on June 13, 2015.  The extra flight will operate on Saturdays, and is also subject to government approval.
