IMGP4629SMBC Aviation Capital, an aircraft leasing company, announced an order for 80 Boeing 737 Max 8s.  The order, valued at over $8.5 billion at list price, is the largest single order for 737 Max planes from a leasing company.

With the order, SMBC becomes the 50th 737 Max customer.

The Boeing 737 Max uses CFM International Leap-1B engines and has new winglets, which provide a 14% improvement in fuel use over comparable single-aisle aircraft.  The plane is designed to reduce operating cost per seat by 8%.

SMBC Aviation Capital is based in Dublin, Ireland, and is the fourth largest aircraft leasing company in the world.  It currently has airline customers in over 40 countries.
