GETTING THERE

The small towns in the canton of Vaud are not directly accessible by air transport but may be reached by local train or steamship from the city of Geneva. Visitors may access the region through Geneva International Airport, which serves over 60 airlines including Air Canada, British Airways, KLM, Swiss International Air Lines, and United, and is a six-minute train ride from downtown Geneva.

Both the airport and Gare Cornavin, Geneva’s main train station, provide connections via InterCity and InterRegional trains to the larger towns in the Vaud canton including Lausanne, Montreux, and Vevey. The main IC and IR train lines also connect these towns to most other major cities in Switzerland including Bern, Zurich, and St. Gallen.

From Lausanne, the local S1 and S3 trains provide connections to Saint-Saphorin and many other small villages in the Lavaux region. Visitors exploring the Lavaux vineyards may also take the scenic S31 train, also known as the Train des Vignes, between Vevey and Chexbres. Also providing local service is the Petit Train, a small tractor-like train that runs regularly between the towns of Lutry and Cully with stops at the major vineyards and wineries in the Lavaux area.

The Lavaux region is also accessible by steamboat. The boats run daily from the port of Ouchy in Lausanne and from Montreux and Vevey to ports in the Lavaux towns of Lutry, Cully, and Rivaz. Visitors may also take a steamboat to the Lavaux region directly from Geneva.
