Delta Profit Up 17% in Second Quarter

Delta Air Lines announced financial results for the second quarter of 2014. The Atlanta-based airline reported a profit of $801 million, a year-over-year increase of 17%, or $116 million, from $685 million in the second quarter of 2013.

Revenue for the second quarter also increased year-over-year by 9%, or $772 million, to $9.266 billion. Passenger revenue per available seat mile, or Prasm, increased by 6% year-over-year.

Passenger traffic increased by 5% year-over-year to 53.341 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, while capacity increased by 3% year-over-year to 61.817 billion available seat miles, or ASMs.

The airline’s load factor in Q2 also showed an increase of 1.5 percentage points, up to 86.3% from 84.8% in the same period last year.
