Alaska Airlines Sees Increase in June Traffic
Alaska Air Group announced operational results for June 2014 for Alaska Airlines as well as for Horizon Air.
Traffic for Alaska Airlines, expressed in revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, increased by 4.7% year-over-year, up to 2.475 billion RPMs from 2.364 billion in June of 2013. Horizon Air also saw an increase in traffic, up 2.1% to 193 million RPMs from 189 million during the same period last year. Combined, total system traffic for the two airlines was 2.733 billion RPMs, up 5.3% year-over-year from 2.596 billion.
Alaska Airlines reported 2.831 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, for June, a year-over-year increase of 4.7% from 2.704 billion. Capacity for Horizon Air also increased, up 5.8% to 238 million ASMs from 225 million during June of last year. Combined, the two airlines had 3.144 billion ASMs, a year-over-year increase of 5.5%.
Alaska’s load factor for June 2014 remaining unchanged at 87.4%, while Horizon Air reported a 2.9 percentage point drop, down to 81.1% from 84% during June 2013. Together, the airlines had a load factor of 86.9%, a 0.2 percentage point decrease from 87.1% in June 2013.
