Star Alliance announced that the construction of its new lounge, located in the Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX, will be completed by the end of July and that the lounge itself will open later this year, once the terminal extension has been completed.

The new lounge will be managed by Air New Zealand and will incorporate a variety of spaces ranging from a bar to a library for quiet contemplation and reading. The lounge will provide a separate area for those traveling in first class and a larger section for business-class and Star Alliance Gold passengers.

The lounge will also feature an outdoor terrace with a fireplace and views of the Hollywood hills.

The lounge’s design was inspired by modernist Los Angeles architecture from the 1950s and 1960s by Gensler, an architectural firm headquartered in San Francisco. It will also feature black-and-white photos that were “inspired” by Los Angeles, according to Star Alliance, taken by well-known photographers as well as an exhibit of local objects.

Currently, eight Star Alliance member airlines fly into the Tom Bradley Terminal, namely ANA, Asiana Airlines, Eva Air, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, Thai, and Turkish Airlines. Air New Zealand will relocate to the terminal in 2014.
