Diversions: Test Your Knowledge of Geography With Lufthansa Virtual Pilot

Bildschirmfoto 2013-03-17 um 19.49Most people think they know their geography pretty well but a report last year by the National Assessment of Educational Progress found only about one-fourth of American students are proficient in geography.  Indeed, a contestant for Miss Teen USA gave a somewhat baffling answer to the question of why one-fifth of Americans are unable to locate the U.S. on a map (she said it was because “some people out there in our nation don’t have maps.”).

The Onion made sport of Americans’ geographic weaknesses with a report that the United States had given billions of dollars in aid to the wealthy European principality of Andorra, which it mistakenly had assumed was a poor African country.

A few years ago, Lufthansa introduced a game that required players to know where countries in Europe are.  While the game is over insofar as prizes are concerned, we think Frequent Business Traveler readers will rise to the challenge and test their mettle.
