Delta Air Lines and US Airways have begun nonstop service to Key West International Airport in Key West, Florida. Delta will provide service from New York’s LaGuardia Airport, while US Airways will fly between Washington Reagan National Airport and Key West.

The start of service was celebrated with a water cannon salute for both the Delta and US Airways flights.  Passengers were greeted with a red carpet and a man blowing a conch shell.

Through January 5, 2013, Delta will offer non-stop flights from New York to Key West, and each Saturday from March 2 to April 6, 2013. The route will be the longest commercial route to serve the Floridian island.

US Airways will offer a daily flight to Key West through January 5 from Washington Reagan, and will continue to offer the service each Saturday through April. In addition, Southwest Airlines is set to begin daily service to Key West from New Orleans on March 9, 2013.
