American Airlines and Air Tahiti Nui, Tahiti’s international airline, have announced a bilateral codeshare. The agreement was approved by the U.S. Department of Transportation, and its conditions state that American can place its code on Air Tahiti Nui flights between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Papeete Faa’s International Airport (PPT). The conditions also allow Air Tahiti Nui to place its code on American flights from Los Angeles to more than 15 American cities, including New York, Chicago, Boston, and Washington, D.C.

“We are excited to launch this new codeshare relationship with Air Tahiti Nui to give our customers more options when traveling to the South Pacific and French Polynesia,” said Kurt Stache, American’s vice president of strategic alliances. The codeshare is being created with the intention of improving the visibility of Tahiti in North America, according to Etienne Howan, chairman and CEO of Air Tahiti Nui.

American Airlines offers its AAdvantage members the ability to redeem miles for award travel on Air Tahitu Nui. More information can be found at
