Starwood to Open 80 New Hotels in 2012
Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced plans to open 25 new hotels in Europe over the coming four years and 80 new hotels globally this year.
This figure includes the new W hotel in Paris and Istanbul’s new Le Méridien.
Starwood will focus its efforts in Europe on what it calls “fast-growing markets,” which include Russia, Turkey, and the Ukraine.
Cities that will see new Starwood hotels include Kiev, Milan, Moscow, and Rostov-on-Don. In addition, Starwood will open its first ski resort, the W Verbier Retreat & Spa, in Switzerland.
In 2011, Starwood opened 112 new hotels and announced it had invested more than $100 million to renovate some of its properties including the Grand Hotel in Florence, which re-opened last year as a St. Regis hotel, the Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville, Hotel Maria Cristina in San Sebastian, and Hotel Gritti Palace in Venice.
