Starwood has announced plans to open its 70th Aloft hotel worldwide by 2013.

Aloft is a brand geared towards Generation Y travelers, and focuses on modern design (such as their re:mix lounges and w xyz bars) and affordable rates.

The brand focuses on conversion of former hotels, as well as adaptive-reuse. The Aloft San Francisco Airport, which will open in fall 2012, was formerly a Clarion. Aloft Detroit Downtown, which will open in July 2014, is located within the city’s David Whitney Building.

In 2012-2013, Aloft plans to open hotels in Canada, China, India, Malaysia, and Latin America. U.S. locations scheduled to open include Cupertino, Miami-Brickell, Orlando, Cleveland, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa, among others.

Since its launch three years ago, Aloft has opened more than 55 hotels. Last year, Starwood opened Aloft hotels in Thailand, Colombia, the United Kingdom, and Brooklyn.
