Euro At 11-Year Low Against Yen, 16-Month Low Against Dollar
As trading opened in Asian markets on Monday morning, the euro reached an 11-year low against the yen and a 16-month low against the U.S. dollar.
On Friday, as trading in New York drew to a close, the common currency of 17 European nations fell as low as $1.2676 before recovering to $1.2701.
On Monday, it was even lower in Asia, hitting ¥97.47.
The 2011 highs for the euro were ¥123.33 and $1.4940.
The euro celebrated its 10th anniversary on the first of this month, but the occasion was observed quietly given the ongoing euro crises.
