Severe Weather from the Plains to the Northeast Delays Over 6,700 Flights

A series of storms moving from the Plains to the Northeast brought long delays at airports in that region on Wednesday along with lightning, hail, strong winds, flooding, and even a tornado.
Over 1,800 flights had been cancelled as of 10 p.m. EDT, with an additional 8,000 delayed.  Airlines are reporting arrival delays of up to five hours in some cases.
