Alaska Air Announces Winding Down of Virgin America’s Elevate Frequent Flyer Program

Alaska Airlines announced detailed information about the transition from Virgin America’s Elevate frequent flyer program to Alaska’s Mileage Plan and when various Elevate partnerships will come to an end.
The Elevate program itself will be supplanted by Mileage Plan on January 1, 2018. The last date on which it will be possible to earn miles on Elevate by flying Alaska will be December 31, 2017.

Alaska Airlines and Virgin America announced that the two carriers plan to move their operations at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Terminal 7. Alaska currently operates out of Terminal 8, while Virgin operates out of the airport’s Terminal 4.

System-wide traffic for Alaska Air Group, expressed in revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, increased by 5.5% year-over-year, up to 4.37 billion RPMs from 4.1 billion in March of 2016.
Capacity was 5.12 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, a year-over-year increase of 5.7% from 4.8 billion ASMs.

Alaska Airlines to Retire Virgin America Brand, Merge Frequent Flyer Programs, Open New Lounges

Alaska Airlines, which acquired Virgin America late last year, said that it plans to operate solely under the Alaska brand.
The Virgin America brand will be retired “likely sometime in 2019,” the airline said in a blog post. The move follows months of consideration and interviews with customers.
