Lufthansa Reports Smaller Operating Loss for First Quarter

Deutsche Lufthansa AG announced financial results for the first quarter of 2014.
The airline reported an operating loss of €245 million ($341 million) for the first quarter, a year-over-year improvement of 31.8% from a loss of €359 million in the first quarter of 2013.

Boeing announced the delivery of the 75th 747 to Lufthansa.  The aircraft delivered Thursday is the German airline’s 13th 747-8 Intercontinental jetliner, for which it was the launch customer.
The Boeing 747 made its commercial debut in 1970, on Pan Am’s New York-London route. The first wide-body aircraft ever produced, it soon earned the nickname “Queen of the Skies”. The latest incarnation, the 747-8 Intercontinental first entered service in 2012.

Lufthansa Pilots to Go on 3-Day Strike

Lufthansa said Monday that its pilots will be staging a strike between April 2 and 4, causing most of its flights between those dates to be canceled.  An estimated 425,000 passengers and thousands of flights will be affected.
“Due to planned strike actions of the pilots union ‘Vereinigung Cockpit’ from 02.04.2014 to 04.04.2014 Lufthansa flight operations will be heavily affected,” Lufthansa said in a statement on its website.
