London’s Airspace Closed After Power Failure

Flights in and out of London were disrupted after London’s airspace was shut down due to a computer failure.
Eurocontrol, the European air control agency, said there had been a power outage at the NATS control center at the UK’s air traffic control center in Swanwick.  Officials declined to say how long the situation would continue.
The shutdown impacts five busy airports including London Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, and London City.

Delta Air Lines announced that it is now offering a private, drive-through check-in for business-class passengers flying out of London’s Heathrow Airport.

American’s US Airways Unit to Launch Daytime London-Philly Route

American Airlines announced plans to operate a daytime flight linking Philadelphia and London next spring.  The flight will be operated by its US Airway subsidiary.
Flights will depart Philadelphia International Airport at 9:55 a.m. and arrive at London Heathrow at 10:10 p.m.  Flights from London will depart at 8:20 a.m. and arrive in Philadelphia at 11:35 a.m.

14 Injured After Hyatt Regency London Gas Explosion

A gas explosion in the basement of the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill hotel resulted in the evacuation of over 500 guests overnight on Friday.
The explosion, which took place at 11:40 p.m. local time, caused part of the building to collapse.

Delta Air Lines announced it will begin new daily, non-stop service between Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and London, England next spring.
Flights will depart Philadelphia International Airport at 7:04 p.m. and arrive at London Heathrow at 7:30 a.m. local time. From London, flights will depart at 12:30 p.m., and arrive in Philadelphia at 4:01 p.m.
Delta will operate the flights using a Boeing 757-200.  The service will commence on April 8, 2015.

Oetker Collection, a hotel operator, announced it will take over management at the Lanesborough hotel in London.  The property, which has been closed and undergoing extensive renovations since 2013, is expected to re-open in spring 2015.
The Lanesborough will be the company’s first property in the United Kingdom.
