Winter Storm Cancels 1,100 Flights, Impacts 23 States

As Winter Storm Electra continues to dump snow in the Central and Northeast United States, it  began to cause severe weather in the Southeast as well.

Aeromexico announced it will begin new seasonal service from Chicago to both Morelia and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on December 12 and 21 respectively.  Flights to Morelia will operate twice weekly, while flights to Puerto Vallarta will operate once a week.

JetBlue Begins New Chicago-San Juan Service

JetBlue announced the launch of daily nonstop service between Chicago and San Juan, Puerto Rico.  The service is the airline’s first to the Caribbean from Chicago.
Flights depart Chicago O’Hare International Airport at 9:30 a.m. and arrive at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan at 4:03 p.m.  Flights from San Juan to Chicago depart at 3:58 p.m. and arrive at 7:10 p.m.

United Airlines announced it will begin daily, nonstop service to Atlantic City, New Jersey, from Chicago and Houston on April 1 of next year.  The new flights will be operated by United Express carrier ExpressJet, using Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft equipped with 50 seats.

JetBlue finalized its winter schedule for its Caribbean routes.  The new, expanded schedule includes five new routes, and the deployment of larger aircraft to select destinations in the region.

Southwest Airlines Begins New Routes from Three Cities

Southwest Airlines announced the launch of new service from Pensacola, Florida; Richmond, Virginia; and Memphis, Tennessee.  The new routes were previously operated by wholly owned subsidiary AirTran Airways.
Southwest now offers service between Pensacola and both Nashville and Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport, as well as service between Richmond and Orlando.
The airline’s service from Memphis is to Baltimore, Houston-Hobby Airport, Orlando, Chicago’s Midway International Airport, and Tampa Bay.
