Southwest Passenger Traffic Up for January

Southwest Airlines announced operational results for January 2014.  The airline’s planes were fuller for the month, with a decrease in capacity and an increased load factor.
The Dallas-based airline said that capacity dropped 2.6% to 9.7 billion available seat miles from 10 billion in January 2013.
Southwest’s system traffic, expressed in revenue passenger miles or RPMs, was 7.4 billion, a 2.2% increase from the same period in 2013.

Alaska Airlines Reports January Traffic Up, Load Factor Down

Alaska Air Group announced operational results for January for Alaska Airlines as well as for Horizon Air.
Alaska Airlines reported 2.515 billion available seat miles, or ASMs, for January, a 3.3% increase over last year’s 2.435 billion.  Horizon Air reported 228 million ASMs, up 3.6% from last year’s 220 million.  Together, the two airlines had 2.807 billion ASMs, a 3.9% increase.

Delta Air Lines announced operating results for January 2014.  The Atlanta-based airline said that its traffic in January 2014 increased 4.2% year over year, while its capacity increased by 1.8%.
Total system traffic for the month increased to 14.49 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, an increase from 13.91 billion RPMs in January 2013.

Frankfurt Passenger Traffic Up for 2013, Counts on More Growth for 2014

Fraport AG, the operator of Frankfurt Airport, reported a 0.9% increase in passenger traffic and a record 58 million passengers for 2013 despite what it termed a “difficult situation” for European aviation.
