Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and China Southern Airlines were the top three airlines in the world based on the number of scheduled passengers carried, according to statistics published by the International Air Transport Association.

Delta Air Lines announced that it introduced a variety of new foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in its Sky Club airport lounges.  The changes are effective starting August 14.

Aeromexico to Launch New Service to Monterey

Aeromexico announced it will begin two new daily flights between Monterey, Mexico, and Houston, Texas, as well as an additional daily flight between Monterey and the Mexican city of Torreon, on November 3.  All new flights will be operated using Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft.

Finnair announced it will begin offering Economy Comfort, a new premium economy option, on long-haul flights this fall. The section will be located at the front of the economy cabin and will include seats with four inches of extra legroom, high-quality headphones, and personal amenity kits.

JetBlue Airways announced operational results for July 2014.  The airline’s traffic and capacity for the month both increased, as did its passenger load factor.

Virgin America Reports 400% Increase in Profit

Virgin America announced financial results for the second quarter of 2014.  The airline’s operating profit in the second quarter was $36.983 million, a significant year-over-year increase of over 400% from $8.849 million in the second quarter of 2013.

New York LaGuardia Airport announced the opening of its new American Express Centurion Lounge in the airport’s Terminal B.  The 5,000-square-foot (465-square-meter) lounge is open to Platinum and Centurion Card members at no charge, while other American Express cardholders can purchase a day pass for $50.
