Delta, United Update Smartphone Apps with New Features Including Free Wi-Fi Messaging
Both Delta Air Lines and United Airlines announced updated versions of their iOS smartphone apps in recent days.
Delta unveiled version 5.16 of the app and made the Today Mode Boarding and Departure Time tile easier to read by increasing the speed of the rotation.
In addition, passengers who book a flight using an American Express Companion Certificate can now change their planned itinerary using the Modify Flight feature in My Trips. The airline also made it possible to search for certificates and eCredits using a credit card number associated with the account.
Meanwhile, United released version 4.1.39 at the end of last week. The airline said the update makes it easier to cancel and refund flights via the app “should your travel plans change.”
In addition, with the new version, it’s now possible to add a lap infant at check-in and receive the appropriate boarding pass, without having to check in with an agent or at a kiosk at the airport.
Finally, United also added free Wi-Fi messaging for passengers connected to an aircraft’s onboard Wi-Fi network. Messaging services supported by the airline include but are not necessarily limited to Apple iMessage, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp.
