American Airlines and JetBlue Airways announced that they are adding new benefits to their frequently flyer programs, some directly related to the two airlines’ new Northeast Alliance.

Effective Wednesday, the two carriers are offering reciprocal elite benefits to members of their respective frequent-flyer programs with the necessary elite status.   Some benefits will start within the next few months, however.

The benefits that go into effect on Wednesday for TrueBlue members with Mosaic status include priority check-in, access to expedited security checkpoint lanes, “earlier” boarding via a priority boarding lane, priority bag check, and up to two free checked bags.  Mosaic members are also entitled to complimentary same-day changes to their flights.

Complimentary preferred seating on flights will be available to Mosaic members by the end of the year and, at a yet-to-be determined date, all TrueBlue members will also be able to redeem points for flights operated by American.

Elite members of American’s AAdvantage program, in turn, will now receive priority check-in, priority baggage, priority security lanes, and priority boarding when traveling on JetBlue-operated flights.  In addition, elite members will have access to preferred seat selection on JetBlue flights by year end.

Finally, starting in November, members of American’s Advantage frequent-flyer program will be able to redeem miles from that program for any flight operated by JetBlue.
