American Express announced a slew of changes to its Platinum Card charge card including a new welcome offer, a significantly higher fee, and multiple new benefits.

Effective immediately, the annual fee will increase by 26% to $695 per annum, although the increase will only impact existing cardholders after January 1, 2022. No change was made to the cost of supplementary cards.

Centurion cardholders will receive a $200 hotel credit for bookings made through the Hotel Collection or for a prepaid booking made through the Fine Hotels & Resorts program.  The credit is limited to one per account.

Other new benefits include a $179 Clear credit for the registered traveler program, a $25 statement credit per month for Equinox memberships, and a $20 per month statement credit for select entertainment providers, namely for Audible, Peacock, SiriusXM, and the New York Times.

The addition of the new benefits did not result in the elimination of any existing benefits including access to the Centurion Lounges and the Saks Fifth Avenue, Global Entry/PreCheck, and Uber Eats statement credits.
