Even though 40% of Americans have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, it’s imperative that people continue to don face masks for the time being, until we learn more about whether inoculated individuals can transmit the coronavirus, said Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Biden’s chief medical advisor.

“It is likely that if you are vaccinated, that you are not going to spread infection, if you get infected without any symptoms. There’s no doubt about that,” Fauci said in an interview with Fox News. “There are studies that are coming online now, that are going to definitively prove that.”

Meanwhile, although the White House estimates that 69,000 people will die between March 29 and July 1, there are nonetheless steps that people can take that could help lower this figure, acknowledging however that people are getting weary of some measures.

“Covid fatigue is a real phenomenon and people are feeling it. We’re not 14+ months into this,” said Fauci on an interview with CNN. “It’s totally understandable that people have had enough of it. So what we’re saying … is that we’re going to get to where we want to be so that we can go out and watch the cherry blossoms and we can go out as we get warmer weather.”

Fauci recommended people and local governments “double down on health measures” and “do whatever you can to get as many people vaccinated as quickly and as expeditiously as possible” so “we don’t look and second guess ourselves.”

“Let’s not declare victory prematurely,” he warned.  “We need the mayors and governors to continue to emphasize face masks and social distancing.”

Meanwhile,  “every day that you vaccinated 4 million people you get closer and closer to control,” he emphasized.

“Just hang in there a bit longer and the vaccine and the vaccinations of people in this country are going to override a surge of the virus,” Fauci said, adding that “[T]he vaccine is going to win out.”
